Professional Experience:

Maria has worked as a Respiratory Physiologist at Cork University Hospital since 1987. Experience as Head of Department includes but is not limited to, Lab set up and management and over 20 years experience lecturing and mentoring undergraduates and healthcare professionals. Representative roles include presenting research results, nationally and internationally, while developing an extensive network of fellow professionals in her specialism.

Maria lectured in the Respiratory modules on the Clinical Measurement programs in DIT Kevin St from 1997. She was involved in the set-up of the BSc in Clinical Measurement Degree Programme and lectured in a part time capacity on these programs for 10 years whilst concurrently completing her research Masters. She maintains strong links with TU Dublin (formally DIT Kevin St) over the years and is a Practice Educator for Respiratory Clinical Placement on the undergraduate programme.

 

Qualifications: 

Masters in philosophy (MPhil)

Thesis: Acoustic Pharyngometry as a screening test for Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (MPPM)

Pass with Distinction and recipient of the Siemens Award in Clinical Measurement

Diploma in Asthma Care
