Mater Misericordiae University Hospital

Robbie is currently the Chief II Cardiac Physiologist in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, a position he has held since his promotion in 2010. Over the course of a twenty five year career, Robbie has been a proactive advocate of continued professional development, completing numerous courses and qualifications including a diploma in Healthcare Management, Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, in-service training in both Healthcare and Law and Effectiveness in Representation, and recently a professional Diploma in Performance Management undertaken with distinction through UCD.

Robbie’s place of work, the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH) is a Level 4 training hospital, providing a broad range of frontline and specialist services to a local, regional and national level patient cohort. MMUH national specialities include Cardiac Surgery Heart and Lung Transplants, Extra Corporeal life Support (ECLS), Pulmonary Hypertension and the National Biohazard Isolation Unit. During his tenure, Robbie has overseen a 36% growth in activity, across both invasive and non-invasive cardiac diagnostics and an immeasurable amplification of complexity. The result has been the need to effectively resource and manage business development, successfully resulting in the expansion of WTE headcount, which currently stands at 23 Cardiac Physiologists.

Robbie has represented the Irish Institute of Clinical Measurement Physiology (IICMP) through engagement with numerous advocacy groups, most notably the Acute Coronary Programme. Through this engagement the group delivered a comprehensive review and produced a report that resulted in the HSE sanctioning additional personnel to further support Primary PCI activity. He is currently the Vice-Chair of the Cardiac Faculty and sits on vocational group.
